AISD votes to join school finance lawsuit - YNN - Your News Now

The Austin Independent School District is joining the statewide school finance lawsuit.

Monday night, members of the AISD board of trustees agreed to join the lawsuit filed by a coalition of Texas school districts known as the Texas Taxpayer & Student Fairness Coalition.

The lawsuit states the state's school finance system is unconstitutional because taxpayers and students aren't treated fairly.

The lawsuit filed by Thompson and Horton LLP says the system is not funding growth and higher expectations by the state.

Over the summer, state lawmakers slashed $4 billion in public school funding.

More than 250 school districts across the state have joined the lawsuit. To view a copy of the original lawsuit click here.
