Qatar sacks football coach after poor cup showing

Following the national football team?s dismal performance at the 2013 Gulf Cup in Bahrain, Qatar has sacked its head coach, Brazilian manager Paulo Autuori.

?The Qatar Football Association has mutually agreed with team head coach, Paulo Autuori, to end his term with the Qatar national football team,? Qatar News Agency confirmed. ?Neither party is impacted financially by this decision.?

Fifty-five year old Autuori was appointed in February last year and became the fourth manager of the Qatar national team in less than 12 months.

His replacement is Qatari coach, Fahad Thani, Autuori's assistant, the Qatar Football Association confirmed.

Qatar, which is 101st in the official FIFA world rankings, earned just three points to finish third in Group A at the 2013 Gulf Cup, winning just one of its three matches. Group winners the UAE have now advanced to the final against Iraq to be played January 18.
