SAUGERTIES, N.Y. ? The Saugerties school district has hired a new business manager who will be familiar to neighboring districts in Greene County.
On Tuesday, the Saugerties Board of Education voted 8-1 to hire Lissa Jilek? effective June 11. She will be paid an annual salary of $107,500 and is to receive a 2 percent raise at the beginning of 2014, 2015 and 2016 under the terms of her hiring agreement.
School board President George Heidcamp cast the lone vote against Jilek?s hiring, stating that while she is qualified, he was uncomfortable with providing her a raise at this time.
?I just don?t feel comfortable giving out any raises right now,? Heidcamp said on Wednesday. He noted the district still is negotiating with some of its employees? unions and is preparing a budget for the coming school year.
A graduate of North Adams State College in Massachusetts, Jilek has been the business manager in the Cairo-Durham school district since 2007. Prior to that, she was the business manager for the Catskill Central School District from 2000 to 2007.
Jilek also worked in the Greenwich, N.Y., school district before going to Catskill and was the assistant business manager from 1992 to 1997 in the Saratoga Springs City School District.
In Saugerties, Jilek will replace Business Administrator Allen Olsen, who left in late 2012 to take a job with the Kingston school district. Olsen was paid $119,700 per year in Saugerties.
?She?s got over 20 years experience in school business management,? Saugerties school district Superintendent Seth Turner said of Jilek on Wednesday. He said Jilek exhibited great fiscal acumen throughout the interview process and that? he is looking forward to her helping keep the district on stable fiscal footing.
Jilek was selected from a pool of 11 candidates, Turner said.
Heidcamp said Jilek?s position is a civil service job, so she will be on probation for the first six months. Continued...
The Saugerties school board on Tuesday also agreed to extend the employment of Donald Gottlieb, who has been serving as interim business administrator in the wake of Olsen?s departure. Gottlieb will continue to serve in that capacity through June 14.
Gottlieb is paid $600 a day and works three to four days a week, Turner said.
