GLOWING RESULTS: Duke Energy made $444 million on revenue of $3.58 billion in the quarter. Net income for Progress Energy, Duke recently acquired subsidiary, fell 64 percent to $63 million.
CHARGED UP: Duke profited from higher electricity rates in the Carolinas and lower storm damage costs.
DUKING IT OUT: The deal between Duke and Progress soured when the Duke board ousted the CEO it had just named, Progress Energy's Bill Johnson. He was replaced with Jim Rogers, the Duke CEO who had agreed to step down for Johnson. investors worry that the acrimony could turn regulators against the company.
