The Greater Journey - Ebook 1st | Book Review and Download

The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris, 1830-1900 by David McCullough is a non-fiction American history book. The ebook Edition of this book released May 24th 2011 by Simon & Schuster Adult Publishing Group, while the Hardcover Edition will released October 1st 2011.

Author collects a range of interesting individuals who thread their way through the book. The cohesion is the city itself, with it's art, culture, revolutions, scandals, wars, etc.

Many interesting folk inhabit the pages of this book including painter (and later inventor) Samuel Morse, physicians Oliver Wendell Holmes and Elzabeth Blackwell, authors James Fenimore Cooper and Henry James.

Favorite people include Charles Sumner who suffered a grave injury in the states fighting for abolition, but found healing in Paris. Elihu Washburn, American diplomat to Paris during the German siege and the takeover of the Communards, and scuptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens.

The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris is an engaging, very informative, and quite touching book.
