Clarke Peters and Dominic West, who appeared in HBO skein "The Wire," will reunite to play Othello and Iago in a new production of Shakespeare's tragic thriller at U.K. regional powerhouse Sheffield Crucible as part of the company's 40th anniversary. Helmed by Sheffield Crucible a.d. Daniel Evans, "Othello" runs Sept. 15-Oct. 15 with a Sept. 20 press night. West is currently in rehearsal for the limited West End run of Simon Gray's 1971 play "Butley." Evans, nommed for a 2008 Tony for his performance in the title role of "Sunday in the Park with George," also will return to the stage and to the work of composer Stephen Sondheim playing Bobby in a new production of "Company." Tuner will be helmed by rising star Jonathan Munby ("Life Is a Dream," "The Prince of Homburg") and runs Nov. 29-Jan. 7, with a Dec. 5 press night. Musical direction will be by Nigel Lilley. Sheffield Crucible's upcoming slate also features the world premieres of three plays presented in co-production with new writing outfit Paines Plough in a specially built, 150-seat, portable in-the-round auditorium. They are: "One Day When We Were Young," by Nick Payne and helmed by Clare Lizzimore; "Lungs," by Duncan Macmillan and helmed by Richard Wilson (produced in a simultaneous world premiere with the Studio Theater in Washington DC); and an untitled play by Penelope Skinner, directed by James Grieve. Theater will also host the European premiere of "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show," by the late African-American writer Don Evans, in a co-production with Eclipse Theater. Directed by Dawn Walton and designed by Libby Watson, the play runs Sept. 10-24 with a Sept. 15 press night.
